Wayward's "Operation Oscar" Fund

The Wayward's "Operation Oscar" Fund was created in September 2010.  This fund will help provide assistance for animals in abuse and neglect situations.  The mission of this fund is to help defray the cost of veterinary care, treatment and rehabilitation of neglected and abused animals, especially those animals who have been victimized by cruelty inflicted at the hands of humans.

This fund was established after "Oscar" the cat, a local resident, was visciously and senselessly attacked by a neighbor.  Oscar was impailed with an arrow from the neighbors crossbow.  An excerpt from his story is below.

On Thursday, August 5 there was an act of an animal cruelty commited Lake Wunonah, Auburn PA.  A man used a cross-bow to fire a bolt directly into the face of an innocent six year old cat who was likely standing right next to him and looking up at him. He shot the bolt through the cat and left him to die, never expecting the animal to live, much less crawl home with the bolt (arrow) impaled through his face, shoulders, and the length of his body. The perpetrator admitted the crime because he felt it was his right to hunt cats if he so desired. He is not a resident, but continues to live there, armed with his cross-bow.

The above is an excerpt from Oscar Flecha's own facebook page describing the horrifying events that took place.  Oscar received emergency medical care from the caring
staff of Vetcetera in Schuylkill Haven, PA.  Oscar is recovering well in spite of his near death experience.  The man who shot him has been arrested and charged.

We at Wayward Animal Rescue believe that there is no excuse for abuse.  We promise to take a stand against animal cruelty and provide protection and a voice for the victims.  We can not do this alone.  We must all be committed to winning this W.A.R.

There in an increasing recognition between acts of animal creulty and other forms of violence.  research has concluded that there is a direct correlation between animal and child abuse.

According to the study by the American Humane Association, people who deliberately abuse animals are five (5) times more likely to commit violent crimes against people, four (4) times more likely to commit property crimes, and three (3) times more likely to have additional issues with drug abuse and disorderly conduct.   We must take a stand to end this cycle of senseless violence and abuse.
